It seems like everyday is another awareness day or day dedicated to someone or something special whether it be Siblings Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Margarita Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Day, and the list goes on to fill an entire year! Besides the expected Mother’s Day and Siblings Day, I never really associated myself with any of these “special days” until the last couple of years.

Our world completely stopped for a moment in disbelief on June 17, 2022 when we received the diagnosis that Darryl had Parkinson’s. It knocked us off our feet and would completely reshape our future to something other than what we had imagined it to be as we planned our retirement years. I recalled writing in my journal on that very day…
It was one of those days, where when you hear the news, it changes everything and yet nothing at the same time. But has and will change our lives from now on.
Today, April 11th, is a day when the world unites to shine a light on PD. It is so often a misunderstood disease where many people think it is just a movement or “shaking” disease. But it involves so much more than meets the eye. If you are interested in learning more about this disease and how it affects someone you might know who has been diagnosed so you can better understand what they are facing, check out these websites.
Currently there is no cure for Parkinson’s. Medication regiments, exercise and diet are the main therapies used in managing the symptoms and hopefully slowing the progression. But it is a progressive degenerative neurological condition which is different and unique for every person diagnosed with this disease.
Almost three years later and we are on this Parkinson’s journey, and as they say, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. We have learned to take one day at a time, embrace every moment and stay educated in the latest therapies and medicine approved through lots of research funded by people like you.

Speaking of marathons, last year we attended a Michael J Fox Foundation luncheon and seminar in Charlotte with our daughter Megan.

She was inspired by a story of a person on the panel that had run the Disney marathon and was passed by a person. And as this person passed him he noticed the message on the back of his t-shirt…You’ve been passsed by someone with Parkinson’s.
Next January, our daughter, Megan is running that same marathon through the Michael J Fox Foundation! She and her friend have an awesome team and are raising money to raise awareness and fund research. Our granddaughter Addy is also selling eggs and lemonade throughout the summer so it truly is a family event. Please consider supporting us and her efforts but clicking on the link below. Every little bit helps!
