Quick Corner Chair Update

I kind of have a thing for chairs. I tend to pick up these single strays found in thrift stores, consignment shops and even once along the side of a road. They speak to me, and if nothing else, offer me lots of practice time for slipcovering or reupholstering.

I bought this perfect cane-back side chair at a consignment shop for little to nothing. It was actually perfect the way it was. Even the upholstery was workable into my home decor, but I knew that eventually I would reupholster it, I just didn’t know when or with what fabric. That’s what these stray chairs do, they sit in anticipation of inspiration, purpose and sometimes just the time to do them.

After I finally completed my dining room drapes, I knew I wanted (or needed) to recover this chair. I decided to keep with the blue and white color scheme as it would be more adaptable to any space and also pretty timeless.

The blue and white ticking base and arm pads would contrast nicely with another print or solid fabric if I ever got tired of the current print. I could easily make a new cushion cover without a lot of trouble especially since I saved the template. How about a green velvet for the holidays? Lot’s of options.

As I deconstructed the original upholstery, I took a little shortcut and used adhesive to attach the fabric to the base before stretching it over to the sides and securing it with staples. I didn’t want to create more work for myself than was needed. A simple clean way to update this chair since it was still in such perfect shape. A simple double welt trim, new cushion cover and arm pad and it’s done!

And since it mentioned it, I went ahead and made a green velvet-type of cushion cover to use for the holiday season. I think it goes perfectly in my little dining room nook and will look so cozy for the holidays and winter months.

Happy Holidays!
